M&T Holiday Gift Guide

I know it’s hard to believe, but Christmas is not far away. I’ve swept my chimney, stacked my firewood, and I’m wrapping up house construction season. Winter will be here before we know it. All this means that it’s time to launch the M&T Christmas Sale.

This year, we’ve got several new titles available and a few extra-special offers… which I might as well start right out with:

Issue One and Issue X: Signed, Sealed, & Delivered

I’ve been sorting through my personal magazine inventory lately and decided I could part with a few boxes that I’d been saving for the future. After mulling it over, I’ve decided now’s the right time to release these. I’ve got 100 copies of Issue One and 100 copies of The Tenth Anniversary Issue (Issue X) that will be wrapped in our classic brown paper and affixed with a wax-sealed trade card. I’ve designed a special trade card for Issue X. And, yes, I’ll be signing each copy.

I’m wiping out my personal inventory of these titles down to just a few boxes saved for posterity. These copies are the very last that will be available for sale. Issue X was a one-time, pre-order-only print run, and Issue One (long out-of-stock) has become a serious collector item. I’ve seen individual copies of Issue One sell for $150 online. 

If you’ve been looking for a copy of either of these titles, order now before these last copies are gone for good: Issue X and Issue One. I’m guessing they’ll sell quickly.

Back Issues: Nearly Out of Stock & Clearance Pricing

As we’ve recently been doing some inventory work, we realized two things. The first is that we’re running drastically low on several of our back issues (such as Six, Seven, Eight, and Nine… Ten is already gone)! And since, we will not be republishing anymore of our back issues as hardbound compilations, now is the time to scoop them up before they’re all sold out.

Our second realization was that we need to clear out some overstock of other issues. It’s can be hard to gauge the size of a print run, and although we’ve gotten pretty accurate over the years, there are a couple issues that we ended up ordering too many copies. So, we’ve decided to discount those two issues to move them along. Issue Thirteen and Issue Fifteen and are now marked down from $26 to $18 a piece.

Two New Titles in 2026:

This Christmas, we have several new titles available. In the spring we released a book I co-authored with Michael Updegraff titled Tools for Engagement: Reclaiming Craft in an Age of Technology. In this book, we argued that the life worth living is a life of engagement – one with sleeves rolled up and too much good work to do. And craftsmanship can be thought of as skilled engagement with the world. Technology, in contrast, is an effective means of displacing our work. Despite all it’s efficiencies, there are also palpable losses for humanity. Tools for Engagement argues that in an AI-obsessed moment, we desperately need to reconsider the genuine value of human craftsmanship.

The second title (hot off the press as of this writing) is A Reverence for Craft: Eric Sloane & The American Spirit. Three completely unabridged titles by the late Eric Sloane, bound as one high-quality hardbound volume to last the generations: A Museum of Early American Tools, A Reverence for Wood, and The Seasons of America Past, along with a brand-new foreword I wrote for the occasion and an introduction by Sloane originally published in his bicentennial book, The Spirits of ’76. This is a giant book full of tried-and-true information and classic inspiration.
